Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Reserved pasta water as needed
Instructions
- Cook elbow macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and reserve some pasta water.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onions until translucent. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Drain excess fat and stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the meat mixture, adding reserved pasta water as needed for consistency.
- Mix in half of the shredded cheese until melted. Transfer to a greased baking dish and top with remaining cheese.
- Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
